So, the long awaited adventure to Sri Lanka begins for Rich and I. Five lazy weeks stretch ahead of us, just waiting to be filled with sunsets, surf, temples, and elephants.
Our flight arrived safely into Colombo airport and then a 45 minute taxi (costing SLr2700) took us into the city and our new home for the next week. We are staying in a gorgeous home stay with some of the most welcoming people I have ever met, and a very cheeky beagle puppy called Jasmine – who has already munched her way through Rich’s headphones, and, we are told, once ate the equivalent of £90 in rupees off the side! The house is full of beautiful old furniture and artwork- Nelun, the lady of the house, is a designer, and has been a wealth of information for our trip. As is often custom in Sri Lanka, we brought Nelun some small gifts- one of my homemade candles, and some shortbread, plus some whiskey for her husband, Luxshmann- as they looked after Rich when he was here on his own for a month before I arrived. Sorma has kept us well fed, with typical Sri Lankan cooking – various brightly coloured curries, red rice, fresh coconuts and mangoes, and honey and the thick creamy curd.
Nelun’s place is truly a home from home for us, and is the perfect place to sleep off the jet lag while adapting to the sometimes overwhelming Sri Lankan heat!
Stay breezey 😎
